CENTRAL PROPOSITION
“By expanding our creativity with intention and agency, we open avenues of opportunity and growth within out creative process”
RESEARCH QUESTION
In a digital age where the web can influence our thoughts and behaviours, how can we approach our creative process in a more interconnected way?
When thinking about my favourite stories as a teen, I thought about the Film ‘Stand by Me’ (1986), directed by Rob Reiner, an adaptation of the novel ‘The Body’ by Stephen King. Its themes and qualities showed me a new layer of storytelling that was raw and relatable to some aspects of my life. It’s a story that reflects the harsh realities that both positive and negative humans can have on each other. This was a perfect base for me to create an adaptation that explores my creative ideas informed by my positionality.
AIM / DESIGN CHALLENGE
This project aims to showcase the benefits of expanding my creative growth through a holistic
creative process that explores opportunities for growth within and outside of concept design. This is completed
through a project that shares my positionality and caps my four-year tertiary journey.
THE PROJECT
This project undertakes a mock scenario where I am in a professional team delivering on a concept design - focused brief for a film adaptation of ‘The Body’ by Stephen King. This live-action adaptation stays relatively close to the novel, so designs should remain realistic. Minimal changes to the novel have been made to better suit the time and setting of this adaptation. Briefs were created through investigating and contextualising Stephen King’s writing and intentions.
